Great Depression affected all aspects of life, including the money and effort
women put into their personal appearance. The previous decade saw the beginning
of makeup trends with women sporting the cupids bow look and wearing kohl
eyeliner. However, come the 1930s, softer, more efficient makeup became more
popular.

Coming out of
the 1920s Bob trend, most women’s hair was shoulder length. The most popular
hairstyle of this decade were finger waves and pin curls, the softer the
better. Typically, hair would either be parted in the centre of side and were
very sculpted and neat. Bleached white hair was made popular by icons such as
Jean Harlow and Mae West however the majority tinted and coloured their hair
various shades.
